Last July, Dr. Carmine Mellone, an endoscopy physician who is very well known in Val di Chiana, joined the medical team of UPMC Institute for Health Chianciano Terme. Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florence in 1978, Dr. Mellone then specialized in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the University of Perugia, and in Emergency General Surgery and Emergency Medicine at the University of Siena, where he also specialized in Surgery of the Digestive System and Surgical Digestive Endoscopy. Since 1980, he has been working with digestive endoscopy at the former health care center Val di Chiana Sud. He was a regional councilor of the Italian Society of Digestive Endoscopy, and has participated in several national and international conferences, also as a speaker. Dr. Mellone has published numerous scientific works on surgery and gastroenterology.
In just three months, Dr. Mellone has performed 100 endoscopy procedures at UPMC Institute for Health, taking advantage of the operating rooms and highly advanced technologies available at the Institute. Many patients who have undergone gastroscopy and colonoscopy procedures with Dr. Mellone have expressed their full satisfaction with his professionalism and dedication. The UPMC Institute for Health digestive endoscopy program is part of the prevention programs provided by UPMC in Italy. Colon-rectum and gastrointestinal cancer prevention are a significant part of UPMC care and research, and are available in all its centers in Italy (IRCCS ISMETT, UPMC Salvator Mundi International Hospital, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at San Pietro FBF. and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center at Villa Maria).
