OPERA CHECK-UP®

OPERA CHECK-UP®

screeningfegatocuorediabete

Opera Check-Up® is an innovative personalized screening program based on risk factors such as family history, hypertension, alcohol, smoking, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, and diabetes. Patients can perform all the various tests in one  location over a period of 1-2 days.

Opera Check-Up® was designed for individuals interested in monitoring their own physical and mental well-being. The screening program is recommended for all adults over 45 years of age. Our services are primarily based on preventive medicine and provide for an initial screening and a healthy lifestyle program. Our activities are focused on the prevention of metabolic syndrome and liver issues that may result in more serious diseases. An early diagnosis of fatty liver is critical not only to prevent the risk of liver disorders, but also to prevent other pathologies such as diabetes, cardiovascular and digestive diseases. In 2013, 29 million people in the European Union (EU) were suffering from a chronic liver condition and as many as 116 million people in the EU may suffer from some form of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease -NAFLD- (Source: A roadmap for hepatology research in Europe: an overview for policy makers, HEPAMAP, 2015). More than 30 million people in the US have liver disease – which equates to 1 in 10 Americans –  and in 2015 NAFLD affects up to 25% of people in the United States. (Source: American liver foundation, 2015). Main causes for a fatty liver are alcohol abuse, overweight, obesity, inactivity, high cholesterol, diabetes and other metabolic diseases.

Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly may help to prevent liver or other chronic diseases.

The comprehensive health program (hearth and liver) is composed of a group of tests to assess the health conditions of whom/those that, also with no symptoms, want to evaluate the risk for diseases that could have serious consequences (cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases – diabetes mellitus and dysmetabolic syndrome -, tumors) or to obtain an early diagnosis for them. These illnesses progress silently, and symptoms appear only at an advanced stage of the disease, therefore to prevent them, an advanced diagnostic screening program is necessary. Prevention today is very important. There are therapies able to prevent disease progression and treat the majority of diseases, especially if diagnosed at an early stage. The comprehensive health program (hearth and liver), based on the evaluation of non-invasive indexes that indicate the health of the liver and the cardiovascular system, is composed of:

– Short- and long-term personal and family history, data collection

– Lab tests

– Complete abdomen ultrasound

– Liver elastometry (Fibroscan), with measurement of the intrahepatic fat

– EKG

– Color Doppler echocardiography

– Echo (color) Doppler of the supra-aortic trunks

– Cardiology assessment

– Final specialty consult

In addition to the above tests, especially for those above 50 years of age or with a family history of colon cancer, the comprehensive health program (hearth and liver) allows them to have a colonoscopy, which is the preferred examination method for screening pre-cancerous lesions (colon polyps) or for an early diagnosis of colorectal cancer, which is the most common type of cancer in Italy and in Europe, the second most common type of cancer in terms of incidence in men (after lung cancer), and the third in women (after breast and cervical cancer).

Liver health

PROGRAM

The liver is the mirror of our health, and intrahepatic fat is an early indirect index of systemic metabolic dysfunctions: the accumulation of intrahepatic fat (liver steatosis) is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular metabolic diseases (diabetes and other metabolic disorders) and neoplasias. The liver health program combines non-invasive tests with the patient history and is a simple, but complete, diagnostic program for an adequate evaluation of the individual risk for cardiovascular, hepatic, metabolic, and digestive diseases. It is composed of:

– Short- and long-term personal and family history, data collection

– Lab tests

– Upper abdomen ultrasound

– Elastometry (Fibroscan), with measurement of intrahepatic fat

– Final specialty consult

Heart health

PROGRAM

Performed under the coordination of the cardiologist, the heart health program includes the study of heart function and morphology to evaluate the impact of cardiovascular risk factors on the health of the patient, and is designed for people interested in knowing the state of their cardiac health. At the end of the program, the cardiologist will express a diagnostic opinion based on results, and will indicate any changes in lifestyle, as well as therapeutic options to reduce the risk of disease. The heart health program is composed of:
– Short- and long-term personal and family history, data collection
– Lab tests:
– EKG (with report)
– Color Doppler echocardiography
– Initial and final cardiology consult

By adding the Echo (color) Doppler of the supra-aortic trunks it is possible to complete the screening (HEART AND VASCULAR PROGRAM).
